...eat at Dishoom, Covent Garden

Resuscitating the Iranian Bombay café's on a different continent, Dishoom elevates the faded glamour and beauty of these traditional cafés into a polished and charming setting with fast service and delicious snack foods.

The pav bhaji (a mashed vegetable creation served with fried bread) is exceptional. The dishoom chicken roomali roll is also flavour packed and delicious but only for those who can eat very spicy food. The mango kulfi served on long wooden sticks cannot be faulted. The atmosphere was great with the restaurant laid open to the street by opening a wall of windows. Black and white patterned tiles lead you through the space and down the stairs to even more tables.

The Indian kitsch that gives it added character can be found in the tasteful antique Hindi movie posters that adorn the walls and then a funnier chemist's glass cabinet transported out of an Indian pharmacy in each toilet stall downstairs displaying Bangalore Soap and Jandu Balm. It is definitely a place that everybody should go to!
